Overview
- Behunin & Associates (B&A) interviewed 40 stakeholders across functions to assess inherent risk.
- The assessment produced a prioritized summary for management and informed internal-audit planning.
- Before this project began, the company did not have clear understanding of risk across the organization.
Behunin & Associates led an enterprise risk assessment for a national manufacturing client that created a structured risk universe, using interviews and analysis to prioritize the risks that mattered most to management and internal audit.
How was the assessment conducted?
We developed a risk universe and conducted roughly 40 stakeholder interviews across the organization, including board members, executives as well as leaders in finance, IT, operations, and other functional areas. We assessed the likelihood and impact of the risk occurring (inherent risk) and enterprise preparedness, then calculated the residual risk and assigned a score to each risk. We created a prioritized risk register for management.
The prioritized view helped management and internal audit focus on the highest-risk areas for testing and remediation planning, and the assessment produced clear inputs for the internal-audit plan and for strategic mitigation activities.
How did this work help the client move forward?
- The enterprise risk assessment and scoring methodology, provides the client with a consistent, repeatable way to evaluate risk across every function.
- Interview summaries and risk scoring outputs, give management a clear, well-documented picture of the risk landscape straight from the people closest to it.
- A prioritized risk register was documented so internal audit and management knew where to focus first instead of treating every risk as equally urgent.
